Wm. MILLS FLY REEL BY DINGLEY

This is a 3 ½” diameter fly reel made in England by William Dingley and sold by William Mills and Sons in New York. It is suitable for lines through 8wt. This is a gear and pawl type reel with a horseshoe spool latch, made of alloy and brass with steel gear,  pawl, and spring.  The spindle and bushing are brass.  The reel is marked “Wm Mills and Son / New York” on the back plate, and D-9 and 30 inside.  The alloy frame and spool are finished with something similar to Hardy’s leading, but with a lighter, grayish color.  Condition is very good, used.   Bushing is tight and the finish is uniform.  There is some end play in the spool.  The reel favors right hand wind.
