VON LENGERKE AND DETMOLD CAST CASE, WALLET, AND FLIES
This is pair of items found together in a Connecticut estate. The original owner bought them from famous sporting goods retailer Von Lengerke and Detmold in New York City, perhaps 90 years ago. The cast case was made in England, but is not marked by the maker. It is fitted with two felt pads to keep gut leaders moist, and contains one leader of Spanish silkworm gut. The case is made from brass or copper and has a blued finish with an ivory enamel interior.
The leather fly wallet shows some honest fishing wear, but remains supple and sound, with no tears or broken seams. The wallet contains six fly envelops, also in excellent condition. The flies are snelled, and are wet fly patterns popular in the 1920s or 1930s. Flies are about #6, in unused condition. Patterns include Royal Coachman, Lead-wing Coachman, Parmachine Belle, Silver Doctor, Invicta, Yellow Sally, and others. Twenty flies in all.
