VINTAGE JULIUS VOM HOFE #1 FLY REEL

 This is a JVH fly reel from the golden age.  Hard rubber side plates, nickel  plated brass rims and foot, 4 pillar frame.  Reel diameter is 2 7/8” with a 1” spool width.  Fine for modern lines up to 6wt. Condition is very good.  The foot is intact and not filed, the plating is very good with minor brassing on the bottom rim, as shown.   Rims are tight, on/off check works well.  Hard rubber side plates are very good with no chips, one scratch, and a ½” blind hairline crack from one foot screw, as shown.  The screwheads are not worn or distorted.

These reels were made for right hand wind,  and cannot easily be converted because the handle unscrews clockwise from the spool.  This JVH feature allows the handle to be removed quickly for storage in a case, and allows the grasp to be proportionally larger than those found on other similar reels.  Another reason to love Julius’s reels.  All in all, a fine useable period reel
