STANLEY BOGDAN 100 MULTIPLYING FLY REEL, THOMAS LENK ESTATE

 Superb light salmon reel from Stanley Bogdan’s bench.  This is a gold anodized reel with black accents, 3 1/2” in diameter with a 1 1/8” spool width. Sometimes referred to as the Abercrombie and Fitch 100.  No model number on this reel.  Right hand wind. Comes with heavy leather pouch.  The reel is in very good used condition.  Some minor finish wear on drag lever and some marks on anodized sideplates. Finish on bottom rims is excellent.  Mechanism is 100%, drag is firm, foot is straight and true.  Original Garcia 9wt line, dating to 1967.

Original owner was Tom Lenk, CEO of Garcia, hence the line stickers. This was apparently one of the reels that Lenk supplied to a party of six men who spent three weeks fishing for salmon on the Alta River in July, 1967.  Peter Kreindler of the “21” Club organized the trip to include Lenk and four other New York City bon vivants. The trip was recorded in an excellent (and gossipy) piece in Sports Illustrated, January, 1968 (SIX RICH MEN IN QUEST OF A FISH – Sports Illustrated Vault | SI.com).  This reel came directly from the Lenk estate.  Full provenance on request.
