R.L. WINSTON BAMBOO FLY ROD, 6’ HOLLOW BUILT,  3wt

This is a Winston “Leetle Feller” midge rod, 2 1/8 ounces, 3wt. line, SN 9222.  Inscribed with the Winston patent number 2537488.  These rods were developed by Lew Stoner and Peter Schwab in the 1950s.  This one was built in 1966.  Rods made during the Stoner/Merrick era typically were built with one tip.  Rod features a skeleton reel seat over cork spacer, 5” cork grip, Bakelite winding check, floppy ring hook keeper, tan NCP thread tipped with maroon, guide wraps back-wrapped at guides, Mildrum style stripper, bright snakes, Duronze ferrule over-wrapped, original marked bag with stiffener, original tube with San Francisco yellow and blue label.

The condition of this rod is exceptional.  Cork, hardware, wraps, and ferrule fit are all excellent.  The finish is uniform and clear.  Casting is smooth with rod flexing deep into the butt. The butt taper is nearly flat for the first 16”, giving the rod a parabolic feel. Provenance available on request.
