PORTLAND STYLE CREEL WITH GREEN TOP

This is a 16” Portland style creel, sometimes called a saddle-maker’s creel, identified by the half leathered top. This is signature element of creels made in Portland, Oregon, saddle and harness shops beginning around the turn of the 20th century. The creel has no maker’s name and only a modest amount of embossing. The top of the creel was dyed green, however, which is unusual on a plain basket. This is the original top. Comes with a nicely tooled harness, which may be original to the creel.
