PORTLAND STYLE CREEL WITH GREEN TOP

This is a 16” Portland style creel, sometimes called a saddle-maker’s creel, identified by the half leathered top. This is signature element of creels made in Portland, Oregon, saddle and harness shops beginning around the turn of the 20^th century. The creel has no maker’s name and only a modest amount of embossing. The top of the creel was dyed green, however, which is unusual on a plain basket. This is the original top. Comes with a nicely tooled harness, which may be original to the creel.
