PAUL YOUNG “PRINCESS” 7’ 2-PIECE BAMBOO FLY ROD     $2800

This is one of the very few Princess models Paul Young made. Marty Keane estimated the total number of Princess models as under 30. This rod is serial number 3696 and is fully documented on the Paul Young database. The rod is all original with cork uncleaned. Writing on the butt is in gold ink with the serial numbers in black ink: REUBEN RICH / PRINCESS 7’ 3 ¾ oz HDH / PAUL YOUNG DETROIT MAKER. The writing is in Young’s hand, according to Robert Golder. The rod features a skeleton reel seat with two sliding bands, 5 ¼” cork, bent wire hook keeper, Mildrum stripper, black silk wraps, steel snake guides, Super Z style ferrules.   The bag is original satin, and the tube is the original Champion/Cal-Air with the original owner’s name.  The cane has been flamed, as on other Young rods.

Condition is excellent with cork fine, finish excellent, ferrules tight, all wraps excellent, hardware all fine. One tiptop has been replaced, shortening the tip about ½”.   Full provenance on this rod is available. Photos of the writing have been enhanced for legibility (which still isn’t great).
