ORVIS BATTENKILL BAMBOO FLY ROD, 7’6”

This 7’6” three-piece, two-tip Battenkill is a sweet-casting rod, in an unusual configuration for Battenkills.  Best with a 5wt, but not marked for line size by Orvis.  The rod was built June 22 in 1954 by Reid and Skinner.  Total weight is 4 ounces, and ferrules are 15/64” and 10/64”.  Features Orvis up-locking reel seat over walnut, 6 ½’ grip, hook keeper, Carboloy  stripper, bright snakes, blued ferrules, original bag, and correct Champion tube sprayed black (probably original).

Condition is very good with wraps, guides, and ferrules all fine. There is a clear wrap on the butt section, as shown on the last two photos, immediately adjacent to the stripper guide.  This wrap is over a ding on the cane that is probably not of any real concern. The cork has wear and some ridging, also shown.  Finally, the bag has been re-sewn at the bottom where it was worn through.  All these are minor issues with a distinctive and pleasing 1950s Battenkill rod ready to go fishing.
