JAMES REAMS HOLLOW BUILT 7’6” BAMBOO FLY ROD FOR A 5wt

 Jim Reams is one of the masters of the West Coast hollow building tradition.  This rod is a crisp and lively 5wt, as marked.  Jim’s cane work and finish work are both at their best here.  Features cap and ring reel seat over mortised hardwood, 6 ½” cork, no hook keeper, Mildrum style stripper, blued snakes, blued Super Z style ferrules, red silk tipped black, original bag and labeled tube.  Condition of the rod is excellent, showing a little finish wear on the guides, light soil on the cork, and a slight reel foot mark on the spacer.  The finish is flawless, ferrule fit is tight, and all wraps look like they just came out of the shop.

The “Bill Waara Experiment” was an informal contest among rod builders at the Grayrock Conclave to honor Michigan rod builder Bill Waara.  This rod was Jim Reams’ entry, which was determined the best casting rod and was the only hollow built rod in the group.
