HEDDON #14 BAMBOO FLY ROD, 7’, ALL ORIGINAL
This is a Heddon 7’ 2-piece, 2-tip bamboo fly rod best with a 4wt line. According to Sinclair’s book on Heddon, the 7’ 2/2 #14 was made from 1939 until 1952 with interruptions for WW II (p.133). Very unusual to find a Heddon rod in this configuration with its original varnish and wraps intact. Rod is marked as a #14, weighing 3 ½ ounces, 0 ½ ferrule (12/64”), for an HEH or E (5wt) line. The wooden reel seat spacer is also unusual, in my experience, at least.
Features down locking reel seat over cedar spacer, 5” cork, black composite winding check. Floppy ring hook keeper, swelled butt, red silk tipped black, Perfection stripper, blued snakes, blackened ferrules, Perfection tip-tops, original marked bag and tube. All cane, wraps, hardware, and finish are fine. Ferrule fit is good. Nice rod to cast. I believe it is better with a 4wt than a 5wt. Here is an opportunity to own an exceptional rod.
