HARDY “ROGUE RIVER” BAMBOO  FLY ROD

This is Hardy’s salmon and steelhead rod named for Oregon’s Rogue River. Length is 9’9”.  Line is not marked, but try it with a 9wt.  This is a three piece rod.  The rod has a 4” detachable fighting butt, up-locking reel seat over ebonite, 7 ¼” full Wells cork, no hook keeper, red silk with black tipping, clear agate stripping guide, blackened NS ferrules, wooden ferrule plugs, tiny, bright bridge guides on the mid and tips, agate tip tops.  The tips were made 1” shorter than the mid and butt, as is traditional on British rods.  The heavy canvas bag is original and is sewn for the shorter tips.  There is no provision for the fighting butt in the bag.  However, the marked Hardy tube is long enough at 44 ½” to accommodate the detached butt extension.

Serial number is E88551.  J.L. Hardy’s book shows rods in this serial number range built in 1953.  The condition of the rod is excellent.  Cork is soiled consistent with age.  Finish remains excellent, reel seat is fine, winding check shows some light corrosion, silks are fine, ferrule fit is excellent, bluing on the ferrules has faded very little, all of the delicate bridge guides on the mid and tips are intact.
