HARDY “PERFECT” FLY REEL, 3 7/8

This is the largest of the Hardy narrow-spool Perfects, suitable for lines through 8wt with adequate backing. The alloy Perfect series of reels were designed in the 1890s and remain in production.  The operating mechanism features a solid frame, a winding plate with detachable spool, duplicated Mark II check with rim adjustment.  This reel was made without a line guard.  It was made for right hand wind, but some use the Perfects made without line guards as left hand wind reels.

This reel was made in the 1950s, as evidenced by its ridged brass foot and flat boss on the winding plate.  Condition is excellent, used.  The bushing is tight and there is no end play in the spool.  The black finish is very good, showing some minor losses on the rims and the bottom pillar. All in all, a fine Hardy ready for another 75 years of faithful service.
