High condition 2/2 Leonard 40, serial number 1736, post-fire rod probably from the early 1970s. Rod features aluminum down-locking reel seat over butternut, 6” cork, floppy ring hook keeper, Mildrum stripper, dark blued snakes, bright ferrules, original bag with stiffener, original unusual black Leonard tube. Ferrule size is 14/64”; rod weighs 4 1/8 ounces on my scale. Condition is exceptional with no wear on the inside finish of the guides, and no cracking of the female ferrule wrap. The Leonard 40 is a fine rod for trout in larger waters. The model 40 casts a 5wt or 6wt with accuracy and elegance. It can slam out a very long line when asked.
