H.L. LEONARD 8’ “HUNT” BAMBOO ROD

This is one of the original Hunt models, made before the fire.  It is essentially a variation on the classic Leonard Model 50DF, but weighing 4 ½ ounces and made with a 16/64” butt ferrule.  The 1959 Leonard catalog has this to say about the Hunt dry fly rod:  “dry fly action, stained bamboo, oxidized mountings, length 8 ft.”  The consensus is that the Hunt is a quicker version of the 50DF with a more aggressive butt taper.  Great rod for larger streams.

Condition is excellent with recent maintenance work by Marc Aroner and by Fred Kretchman.   With its distinctive taper, dark cane, blackened hardware, burgundy wraps, the Hunt is a rare Leonard, very hard to find, and truly a legacy rod.
