GARY HOWELLS 8’6” BAMBOO FLY ROD, HOLLOW BUILT

This is a superb Howells 8’6” rod, weighing 4 ¼ ounces as marked, and suitable for a 6wt. line. The serial number is 4517. Fine casting rod with a deep flexing action and plenty of reserve power.   Rod features aluminum up-locking reel seat over hardwood spacer, 6’ cork grip, floppy ring hook keeper, handwritten inscription “G.H. Howells / 8 ½’ 4 ¼ oz. #4517” with the original owner’s name, Mildrum style stripper, bright snakes, Winston-style guide wraps, ferrules over-wrapped, original bag and tube. All cane full length and straight, no repairs. Condition is excellent with minimal evidence of use or excessive handling. This is a classic Howells in a perfect configuration for Western trout.

Howells left Winston and started building rods under his own name in 1970. Now, after 50 years, his rods are still considered among the very best for craftsmanship and intelligent design.
