FARIO CLUB BY ALAN SHARPE, BAMBOO FLY ROD, ENGLAND
Serious British parabolic rod in immaculate condition. Comes with the original plastic tube marked to retailer Dermott Wilson, Nether Wallop Mill, Hampshire. This is a staggered ferrule rod, 8’6”. It features bright down-locking hardware over cork spacer, 6 ¾” cork, bent wire hook keeper, bright Mildrum style stripper and bright snakes. The ferrule is blued NS step-down. Has a bamboo equalizer for the butt. Wraps are lime green tipped red. Impregnated by Alan Sharpe’s process, which leaves the cane in its natural color.
The name Fario Club implies a challenge to the big parabolic rods of Pezon et Michel. Popularized by Charles Ritz and Arnold Gingrich in the 1950s, these rods were demanding to handle, but capable of very long casts. I grew up around P&M rods imported by Norm Thompson in Portland, Oregon. I think that this rod is easily comparable to P&M’s heavy artillery. When you are on big water, bucking a headwind, this rod will do the job.
