JOSEPH SCHNELL 16” FINE WEAVE OREGON SADDLEMAKER CREEL

Joseph Schnell was one of the Portland, Oregon, creel makers active in the 1920s and 1930s.  He was associated with the George Lawrence company, but also made creels under his own name with his own distinct style and tooling patterns.  This creel is 16” wide, which was the largest size of conventional “saddlemaker” creels.  Condition is good used, with  flaw in the basket, as shown.  The creel is not marked, but Snell’s brick work tooling pattern is diagnostic.  See The Art of the Creel, p. 103-104.
